Day 9 of 30 Day AI Challenge – Letting Your Imagination Run Wild

what if star trek hotel roles

It’s Day 9 of the #30DayAIChallenge and given it’s the weekend, I’m going to let my imagination run wild (for a bit). For those just joining us, every day during this challenge, I’m going to try and do something different or better, using currently available Artificial Intelligence tools.

As I experiment more with generative AI, I’ve realized that getting the most out of tools like ChatGPT and Midjourney is all about finding the right prompts. It’s kind of like learning the secret language to communicate your wildest ideas to the AI, and then watching it turn those ideas into super realistic images. Of course, you’ll need to play around with it a bit and fine-tune your prompts, but once you’ve got the hang of it, it’s like having a super-powered creative buddy who’s always ready to bring your imagination to life!

For today’s (educational) challenge, I combined my passions for Star Trek and hospitality…and reimagined what popular characters (from various Star Trek series) would look like in traditional hotel leadership roles. Generating these involved first training ChatGPT on how Midjourney works and having it create detailed prompts, then using those prompts with added parameters on v5 of the latter.

Here are a few selected creations that answer the question “What if Star Trek characters took on hotel leadership roles?”

Jean Luc Picard, Hotel General Manager

Not all the images I tried to create ended up looking like I wanted them, but that’s not surprising. Like any new tech, it does take a fair bit of trial and error to get the hang of using these tools.

Of course, it goes without saying…it’s really great that we can use generative AI to bring our wildest ideas to life, but we’ve got to remember there’s a fine line we need to walk. We’ve got to consider things like copyright, privacy, and making sure we’re not putting out anything offensive or disruptive. It’s all about finding that sweet spot where we can still unleash our creativity, but do it responsibly and respectfully. It’s definitely a tricky balance, but it’s important if we want to keep exploring the amazing potential of generative AI.

Till tomorrow…
